DIY of the Week. @ 6:18 PM
So if you haven't noticed yet, I started making patterns!
This week's DIY is going to be my 2 new patterns and the inspiration for one of them.
First, my
Cuddly Cloche. This fat hat is made with four different weights of yarn, has a big pom pom on top, and kind of reminds me of Where's Waldo.
Next, my
Perfect Earflap Hat. This hat is a nice, tight stitched double crochet hat that is perfect for making crazy hats. The one in the photography is soon to be made into a dino hat!
Now, my inspiration for my Cuddly Cloche. The designs above are from designer
Trish Young. Her fluffy, plush designs made from mutiple strands of yarn are just so hugable, I had to make my own design using the technique.

Cuddly Cloche (pattern) @ 3:02 PM
Another hat! Haha, got to posting this one quicker, as I only made it last night. I wanted to find a use for a large crochet hook I had gotten in a pair set with another hook I needed and came up with this. I made it with 1 strand super bulky, 1 strand bulky, and 2 strands worsted/aran weight yarn, but you can use any combination. They were all scraps from hats I had made before and simply weren't enough on their own to make a hat. So with a little inspiration from Trish Young's
plush clutch, I came up with this baby!
Notes: Each round is joined with a slip stitch and lchain 2 to begin each round.
dc: double crochet
dc2tog: double crochet 2 together
sc: single crochet
Let's get started!
I used a magic ring, but you can use the chain 2 method if you wish.
You need a 19 mm hook, and 15mm hook, and any yarn you like! :D
Rd 1: dc 7 sts into ring/chain.
Rd 2: dc 2 in each st (14 sts).
Rd 3: *1 dc in 1, 2 dc in next st* 7 times (21 sts).
Rd 4: dc in each st around (21 sts).
Continue until desired length (I only did one more round due to my amount of yarn).
When finished, fasten off. Join 2 strands of worsted/aran weight yarn or 1 strand of bulky/super bulky yarn using a 15mm hook and sc 2 in each of the giant sts. Continue 1-2 more rounds single crocheting 1 in each stitch.
Make a giant pom-pom out of your remaining yarn (check out this cool
tutorial) and sew it to the top of your hat! :D
Hope you enjoyed this pattern. <3

The Perfect Earflap Hat (pattern) @ 2:05 PM
I couldn't seem to find an earflap hat pattern I liked (or had come out right) so I made my own pattern, having made a few hats now.
Needs: 5.5 mm hook (for tight stitches) or 5 mm hook (for looser stitches) to achieve size and worsted/aran weight yarn.
Notes: Each round is joined with a slip stitch and then chain two to start the row.
dc: double crochet
dc2tog: double crochet 2 together
sc: single crochet
Start with a magic ring or the chain 2 method.
Rd 1: 9 dc in the ring/chain.
Rd 2: 2 dc in each stitch around (18 sts).
Rd 3: *1 dc in 1, 2 dc in next st* 9 times (27 sts).
Rd 4: *1 dc in 2, 2 dc in next st* 9 times (36 sts).
Rd 5: *1 dc in 3, 2 dc in next st* 9 times (45 sts).
Rd 6: *1 dc in 4, 2 dc in next st* 9 times (54 sts).
Rd 7: *1 dc in 5, 2 dc in next st* 9 times (63 sts).
Rd 8-14: dc in each stitch around (63 sts).
Flaps:
1: Ch 2, dc in 12 sts.
2: dc2tog, dc 8, dc2tog (10 sts).
3: dc2tog, dc 6, dc2tog (8 sts).
4: dc2tog, dc4, dc2tog (6 sts).
5: dc2tog, dc2, dc2tog (4 sts).
Fasten off. Count 20 sts, join yarn and repeat for second flap. Sc edge onto hat. Add tassels, spikes, pom poms, mohawks, or what ever you like!
This pattern belongs to me. Any reproduction of the pattern is forbidden. The final product is yours and may be sold, though.

Last 30 Days of Crochet. @ 7:04 PM
Day 23: If you had the supplies (and patience) for it, what project would you start today?
Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?
I have made my own pattern actually! I couldn't find an earflap hat pattern I liked (or had work), so I made my own! It's entirely double crochet and will be posted soon! I would love to dye my own yarn though. :3
Day 25: Do you have a crocheting book or a place where you keep patterns, ideas, size measurements? Post a picture of it!
I pretty much just carry scribbles in my backpack or a half-finished project in my purse.
Day 26: Have you ever been a part, or wanted to be a part of a crochet-a-long? What was it? If not, why?
I would love to soo! I haven't been able to though.
Day 27: How do you acquire most of your yarn? Online retailers, local yarn shops, swaps, or large chain craft stores? What’s your favorite?
I am a cheapo. All my yarn is either hand-me-down, left-overs or from Wal-Mart. OTL
Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides crocheting? What are they, and did learning to crochet come before or after learning these other crafts?
I do a little sewing (I can't machine sew yet), I have dipped a little into wire-working and jewelry, and I draw A LOT (check out my deviantART). I started doing all these before crochet.
Day 29: Do you have any tips, or things that you’ve learned from crocheting?
I've learned that it's a lot better to learn crochet (or your mistakes) through doing patterns. I tried doing swatches but by the time I did two, I just said "To hell with it!". I made an amigurumi after that. My second successful project was a pair of mary jane slippers with which I learned double crochet. You stay a lot more interested if you're making something you actually want to make, trust me.
Day 30: What’s your name on Ravelry? If you don’t have a Ravelry account, why?
My name on Ravelry is MyNameIsVi (click the link, you know you want tooo :D).
DIY of the week. @ 6:51 PM
Let's get thoughts (and crafts) of spring started!
Stephanie Jessica Lau's
spring bunnies are another cute pattern from this amazing designer's mind! Too adorable not to try!
Lion Brand's
Sea Breeze Top is a great first pattern for first time clothing makers (trust me! I just started this pattern myself!).
The Purl Bee's
Pom Pom Scarf is an awesome how to on an essential accessory for spring.
The Pineneedle Collective's
DIY Heart Tights are, while intended for Valentine's Day, awesome year round (and while time consuming, better than buying them).

30 Days of Crochet: 15-22 @ 3:00 PM
Day 15: What was your least favorite pattern and why?
I'd have to say Oshinn Reid's basic tam pattern. It is a good pattern, it just didn't work for me. It came out the size of a beret for a 5 year old.
Day 16: Have you ever had a crocheting related injury?
I've gotten a blister in the crook of my index finger from holding my yarn.
Day 17: Have you ever had a project that you loved become ruined? What’s the story behind it?
I made a pair of slippers that got holes worn in them.
Day 18: Do you crochet English or American?
AMERICAN. :P
Day 19: Do you watch movies and/or listen to podcasts while crochet? What are your favorite things to crochet to?
I love listening to music or watching movies when I crochet.

Day 20: Do you crochet in public? Was anyone offended/incredibly happy/curious that you were doing so?
I crochet at school a looooot and people just watch me with such curiosity its creepy.
Day 21: Do you crochet gifts for friends and family for the holidays or birthdays?
I love to! I'm in the process of some Valentine things for the beau. <3
Day 22: Have you ever stricken someone off your to-crochet-for list because they didn’t appreciate/take care of your last crochet gift to them?
Not because they didn't appreciate a gift I gave them previously, because they asked for things so harshly.
